Point A to Point B

A principle issue in any urban area is the transportation of its people. Rental fees are highest in areas of concentrated commerce, leading to the development of business districts in the "downtown" areas of most cities. With residential areas spreading outward, cties that have not developed public transit are plagued with automotive traffic as workers travel to their occupational destinations each day. Many highly urban areas have invested in modes of public transit, which lowers the fixed costs of transporting people, and reducing the number of cars on the road. However, considering the initial cost of establishing a system of mass transit, it is only a real option for municipalities with amble investment capital.

Writing on the Wall

Ever since the beginning of civilization, people have communicated by means of written messages in public places. From pyramid paintings to hip hop inspired graffiti art, vertical spaces have served as canvasses for poetry, devotional messages, simple expressions of territorial claims, and of course art. Many cities invest millions of dollars in the removal of graffiti art every year, while others allow these urban messages to remain untouched. In some cities, more than others, the graffiti has a decidedly political undertone, and can function as a media outlet for those whose voices are less often heard in the mainstream.
